In the Spring of 2013, Tommy Hilfiger shot a campaign for their F/W 2013 collection at Princeton University. The previous year, Ralph Lauren did the same at great inconvenience to the students – whole buildings and quads were off-limits. Each clothier used the University's gothic buildings as a backdrop for collections based loosely off of traditional Ivy Style. But many Princeton students roll out of bed wearing an old sweatshirt, and the school is often less perfect than it appears in the catalogs.
This shoot, which I art directed and photographed for The Princeton Tiger in April 2013, pushes against the notion of Princeton gothic monasticism, and features students in casual wear near overflowing dumpsters, mechanical areas, and maintenance cranes.
